A missing three-year-old boy was found dead with a nail through his skull and eyes and his genitals removed, it is reported.
Zazi Nzama’s mutilated body was found by family members in Thembalihle, near Estcourt, South Africa, on Saturday.
The child’s father, Themba Majozi, 38, has since been arrested and charged with murder and possession of human tissue, Times Live reports.
Missing body parts were allegedly found in the Majozi’s home.
Zazi’s grandmother Theni Majozi, 57, said she was struggling to come to terms with the gruesome manner in which the little boy’s body was discovered.
His mum is not believed to live with the family.
Zazi had been reported missing a day before he was found dead, hid body having been dumped in a bush.
The motive for the horrific killing is currently unknown.
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, has condemned the brutal killing, adding he was “glad” the suspect was behind bars.
Member of the Executive Council for social development Nonhlanhla Khoza described the horrific details of the tragedy, calling the maximum sentence for those who kill women and children.
A nail was driven through his skull and his eyes and genitals were removed,” she said.
“Police must quickly conclude the investigation and arrest the perpetrators involved in this murder of an innocent child.
“This is tragic and the family need to find closure following this murder.”
Khoza added that too many people were being murdered in South Africa, which sees an average of 58 killings a day and more than 21,000 a year.
